Wachtel, Elmer (1864-1929)
Elmer Wachtel moved to San Gabriel, California, from Illinois in 1882. He studied at the New York Art Students League under William Merritt Chase, one of America’s most revered teachers. He was a co-founder of the Los Angeles Art Association and his works are held at the Laguna Museum of Art among many others. Wachtel chose a crisp fall day to paint this work in the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena.
