Description

De Noter was a renowned Belgian artist who specialized in highly detailed still lifes and interior genre scenes influenced by Vermeer. He lived in Paris in the 1860s and was nominated by the Belgian government for gold medals in 1848 and 1854. He was knighted by the Portuguese King in 1875.

Probably painted during De Noter’s Parisian period in the 1860s, La Lumiere De Fin D’Apres-midi (Late Afternoon Light) traces its provenance to the art collection of the important Philadelphia iron magnate, Albanus L. Smith.
