Gagliardini, Julian (1846-1927)

French impressionist, Julian Gagliardini was  a popular Parisian artist in the late 1800’s.  He studied under the master Soulary in St.  Etienne, and under the famed Leon Coginet  in Paris. His paintings exhibit the influence of both Manet and Degas.

Gagliardini exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1869 to 1880 and, during the same period, in England. He was awarded several medals during the 1880’s and 1890’s at the Exposition Universelle, including a gold medal in 1900. He was made an associate member of the Salon des Artistes Francais in 1883, and was inducted as a knight in the Legion of Honor in 1893.

His paintings are held at the Museums of Fine Arts of Amiens, Arras, Bayeux, Cambrai, Marseille, Mulhouse, Reims and Tourcoing; Musée Fabre, Montpellier; Musée Malraux, Le Havre; Musée Baron Gérard, Bayeux; Musée du Louvre, Paris.
