Description

Native Californian, Guy Rose, studied under Virgil Williams and Emil Carleson at the School of Design, in San Francisco. He traveled to Paris and further studied at the Academie Julian under Constant, Lefebvre and Doucet. After a stint in New York, he moved to Giverny (the home of Monet) and bought a cottage there. He is widely recognized as one of the finest of the early California impressionists.
His genre included portraits, Giverny and environs, and various locations in California, including Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula, and southern California.
